okay my father had bad allergies and was allergic to dander. Im 17 and only in the past 2 years have I been allergic. I love dogs. My friends have havanse and maltese, which are both hypo-allergeric, but I still got sick. People said I might be allergic to the saliva. Cats I am heavily allergic to. Fish are cool but right now i really want a pet I can play with and raise. can anyone explain what I am allergic to and if its even possible or healthy for me to consider a dog? Living on allergy medicines can’t be healthy. Please I really want real answers, espically since if I got a puppy I wanted to get the basic training done before school starts in a month.

Want To Get A Cat But Have A Few Problems, Please Help, Lots Of Detail Inside?
February 10th, 2010 § 4
I am currently a sophomore in college and have an apartment at my school. I really wanted a pet to have at my apartment so i investigated. I unfortunately can’t have a dog there and i investigated rabbits but that wouldnt work too well once the yeas over. recently ive researched about getting a kitten/cat. I am very picky when it comes to cats that i like though, it has to be affectionate and loving, one that you can hold and fall asleep with. So i looked on craigslist and visited a few shelters and found what i would consider the perfect cat for me. it was a year and a half old male that was beautiful and caught my eye as soon as i saw it at the shelter, it came up to me and loved being petted, it also let me hold it and pet it to the point where it started to fall asleep in my arms, i was really tempted to just get it.
now the problem is that pretty much every weekend, i come back home because my house is about 45 mins away from the school and its pretty much a commuter school, so it would be traveling with me alot. the problems are that i have two dogs at home and my mother. My dogs are very loving and affectionate and would be really gentle but im affraid they might startle the cat and make it claw at them. my dogs are both obese golden retrievers so they might be intimidating. but theyre gentle, when a hamster was placed with him, he lifted his paw up so that he wouldnt step on it. now my main problem is my mom, she HATES cats. no reason in particular, she says she doesnt trust them and has never liked them, she never had an incident that would make her feel like that but shes not evening willing to consider. So i could get it and have it at my apartment but it would have to come home with me christmas break and over the summer and maybe even next year because after two years at my school you transfer up to the main campus which im not sure if ill get another apartment. all i want is for my mom to at least give it a try, which you can do because the shelter said if it doesnt work out you can bring it back but theres no way my mom will let me. she said she would take it and drop it off somewhere! i dont know if shes kidding or what but shes very anti cats! so this is my dilema, i REALLY like this cat alot because i am very picky and havent met one ive liked this much before and would love to have him, I am tempted to just get him while im at my apartment and bring him home and see what happens. I obviously want whats best for this cat and if i could get this to work out that would be it but im not sure what to do. any advice you have would be great. thank you for taking the time to read this and help me, it is much appreciated. =)

I Am Having Problems With A Cat. He Is Peeing In Places He Shouldn’t Be And I Want It To Stop.?
February 6th, 2010 § 6
My family adopted this stray cat (a couple of years ago), and after we had him for a little while, he started peeing on our furniture/carpet. We first showed him the litter box, just to make sure he knew it was there and what it was for, that didn’t help. We got him neutered, that helped for a while, but he started peeing again. We tried rubbing his nose in it and yelling at him when we would catch him, that didn’t help.
Recently he has been peeing on the same thing over and over again, an odomen (sp?) in the living room. I have been researching about how to get him stop, and I really believe it is behavioral, but i don’t think he is being territorial with this surface because he doesn’t sleep on it at all and he is very capable of accessing it. He usually sleeps on my mom’s side of the couch or in the cat tower next to it, but he never pees on those. BTW I don’t think the problem is physiological, but it is not completely ruled out.
I don’t think he pees on it to say he is mad at anyone because nobody ever uses it, so he can’t associate it with anyone in the house. The litter box is cleaned constantly as two other cats live in the house, we have two boxes. I also don’t think he is trying to say anything to other cats either, i think he already thinks he is the dominate one in the house.
What do I do? I am sick of the smell. I find it very embarrassing and don’t let people come into my home because I don’t want them to smell my naughty cat. I want to get rid of him, but my mom loves him, and she is the only one he likes. I won’t get rid of him if he stops, but i just can’t take his piss anymore. All these years of smelling cat pee is freaking disgusting.
