Cat Problems After Flea Bath At Vet Office?

November 9th, 2009 § 2

OK – My 2 female cats had flea baths today at the vet’s office. I get both of them home and the oldest cat sounds like she is kind of gurgling when she breathes and is coughing slightly. I consulted 3 vets who say that this is nothing to be worried about – well it is worrying me!!
HAS anyone had this happen to them before after getting their animals flea dipped?
I finally washed her in Dawn detergent to get the residue of the flea bath off of her (she loudly protested and when she did poor thing sounded horrible)
I know vets told me its okay and to watch her and I will …just want to know if anyone else had this happen and what was the end result?
Thanks

Eeps I obviously cant tell for sure, but could she have aspirated some of the flea bath into her lungs? Most cats dont cooperate with baths, and if it was done hurriedly they might not have noticed. I would bring her to a vets ER if shes showing signs of trouble breathing, Aspiration can cause pneumonia, keep her warm for now. and if she is still having issues bring her to a vet.
One of my kitties once had sensitivities to flea stuff, after I had sprayed her she was wheezing until I washed her.
