If your hair started comming out and you got scabs on your head would you go to the doctor?
There is clearly a medical condition. Take the poor cat to the vet before it gets worse.
You HAVE to take him to the Vet. He is SICK. I would be worried. Generally, you shouldn’t leave your pet outside only. The average cat lives to be 3 years old versus 13 years old inside.
The sores are probably infected. If he has a diminished appetite…then he has an infection and fever most likely. Take him to the Vet asap! Call P.A.W.S. for help with the bill if you don’t have the money. Good Luck and please take better care of that cat!
Fleas will often congregate in the area on the back at the base of the tail. Since he is an outdoor cat, this would be my first suspicion. Fleas, and the resulting sores from irritation, can cause a cat to become dehydrated. This could explain his declining appetite. Try to convince your grandma to take you to the pet supply store for flea treatments. If your cat is over 12 weeks old, get a flea shampoo as well as a topical treatment like Frontline or Advantage. It’s been my experience that these are the only two over the counter flea treatments that work well. Give him a bath with the flea shampoo and follow up with the Frontline or Advantage. If you have a flea comb, it will also help to use this on him after his bath. Make sure to reapply the Frontline or Advantage about every 4 weeks to prevent him from becoming reinfested.
If these treatments do not make a difference in his condition, you may have to find a way to convince your grandma to take him to the vet. Let her know that there are low cost services available. Call around to shelters and rescue groups in your area to ask about discounted vet services. Many of them offer services at a much lower rate than private veterinarian offices… the SPCA shelters are exceptionally good about working with people. You can also check with some of the organizations provided in the link below. They all offer lower cost, or sometimes free, vet care fot those who might not otherwise be able to pay. Just do some of the legwork by calling around first, then present what you have found to your grandma… I’m sure you’ll be able to get her to come around once she realizes that it won’t necessarily cost a fortune. Good luck, and best of health to your kitty!http://www.brandnamepetsupplies.com/store/dog/grooming/index.htm"
get him checked for worms if he eats anything dead he’s at risk for worms. His coat has thinned right? My little guy had brittle hair right around the base of his tail & his back. Hold off on doing anything for him if it’s the change of the seasons then it’ll go away soon. I have a cat thats silly enough to groom all day nonstop so I figured if he can’t stop I’ll do it for him so he can get a break. I took a cheap paper plate cut out a hole and placed it around his neck. He has no problem with it. But then again he’s a very chill cat. Luckily it stops him from licking the base of his tail.
I really want to give you good advise, but if shes not taking him to the vet, Its either gonna get way worse and even when you do take him to the vet, it’ll be too late or he’ll go to the vet, get better while hes not bald and be happy and healthy
he might have fleas or mites or mange, if you dont see fleas you might want to get him to the vet, it’s your responsibility to take care of his vet bills.you are the one who made the decision to get an animal, so be responsible.
my cats old, and shes has the same thing rong, and when we took her to the vet they said shes alergect to fish??..lol (i cant spell). And they also put here on meds cuz they said shes bitting he self becuz of depreson?? (sorry for the spelling!!)
Well if he is loosing hair there because he is scrathing at it, it may be ring worm-not tape worm. The Vet should be able to diagnose the problem. Good Luck!
dude why doesent she want to pay…
you should take him the the vet
i think the best thing to do is contact your local vet clinic and see what they suggest.
