After Worming My Pet I Noticed Lots Of Worms In His Stool For Several Days After. Is This Normal?

November 7th, 2009 § 5

I recently got a new puppy. I noticed he had worms after having to clean up after another housebreaking accident. I gave him worm medicine and noticed over the next several day every time he went to the “bathroom” his stools are full of worms. Is this normal and if so how long will this last? Do I need to re worm him? And also I have a cat that seems to have a real problem with worms even after worming her. What do I do?

    hello
if they are white and the size and look of a rice grain you got tapeworms u might need to go to petco or pet smart and get this product for you cat -tape worm tabs from trade winds called praziqantel this will work in about two days, there should be the same product for your dog as well. Also check and see if there any white worms coming out of the anus or around the area, if so it’s most def. tape worms. if they aren’t white rice shaped worms then it might be roundworms. if this is what u already treated them for then call your vet and give them a description of the worm and they can tell u what to do.
    i hope i helped u

Make sure you are using the right dewormer. There are roundworms, tapeworms, hookworms, and other internal parasites that the dog can have. Make sure you describe the worms as accurately as possible to the vet so that they know which dewormer to use. It is typically best to get a broad spectrum dewormer so that it can get rid of multiple types, in case you are not sure. It sounds like you just dewomed for the wrong type of worms.

Have you asked your vet for advice yet? They can tell you what to do for sure.
Each time you worm them, use a different brand,so the worms cannot build up immunity to the wormer.
Flea control helps too,as one kind of worm is transmitted by fleas.
When you buy an intestinal alwormer, make sure that it controlls all 11 different kinds of worms.

well, the worms have to come out some how.. lol
you should let the vet know what type of meds your pup is taking. i started using the Hartz de worming liquid and my vet said it was fine.

re-worm both of them but not with the same meds! and if it does not clear up in around 2 weeks time take them to the vet.
