I don’t know of a “home remedy” but take it from someone who knows: Frontline is worth the money. Not only does it prevent fleas but also ticks. It is expensive but a flea problem or getting lymes disease will be more expensive in the long run. See if you can get a free sample from where you adopted him or from a vet.

4-5 whole lemons quartered, but into pot and bring to rolling boil (5qt.) let cool add 3-4 cloves of real garlic bring to another rolling boil and let cool.
sm. bottle of original dawn dish soap(use half).
Lavender or vanilla oil ( i used vanilla, couldnt find lavender)
also used vitamin E oil (family dollar), garlic powder (1/4 C.) put in spray bot. & use every 2 days on animals. work great!!!and good for their skin Dilute 1oz.mix-2oz.water.
